A record year for BYD as sales increase 155%

  • BYD Global Sales result for 2022: 1,862,428 units
  • BYD sells 946,239 units of PHEVs and 911,140 units of EV-vehicles

BYD, the world's leading manufacturer of new energy vehicles (NEVs), achieved another record-breaking milestone in 2022, with total new passenger car sales totalling 1,862,428 globally – an increase of 155.1% compared to 2021.

Sales of Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) models reached 946,239 units, and Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) achieved 911,140 sales. This means BYD will have sold more than 3.3 million New Energy Vehicles in total at the end of 2022.

A key feature in 2022 has been the continued growth of BEV products based on e-platform 3.0. This innovative vehicle platform features the latest generation technology on product lines such as the recently launched BYD ATTO3, SEAL and Dolphin models. Similarly, the ground-breaking BYD SONG DM-I plug-in Super Hybrid, which features a range of over 1,000km in hybrid mode, has provided significant efficiency gains for consumers seeking leading PHEV technology.

BYD is the only manufacturer which designs and builds the complete electrical powertrain, including power batteries, automotive semiconductors, motors, and motor controller systems. All BYD passenger cars feature pioneering Blade Battery technology coupled with full proprietary integration of the electrical architecture. The cobalt-free iron-phosphate Blade Battery provides greater efficiency in terms of performance, range, and lifecycle and is also designed to enhance levels of safety.

2022 saw the BYD brand expand into more European countries following a pilot programme in Norway with the launch of the BYD ATTO 3, the expressive and dynamic C-segment SUV, the BYD TANG, a 7-seater with variable all-wheel drive and the sleek and sporty sedan BYD HAN. The Paris Motor Show in October provided the platform for many European consumers to see and experience the BYD range of products first-hand. The first vehicle deliveries have taken place in the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, France and Germany to excellent customer acclaim.

BYD will progressively launch in other European markets throughout 2023, bringing leading electric vehicle technology to more consumers.
