BYD DOLPHIN: VAB electric Family car of the Year 2024

Brussels, Belgium – BYD DOLPHIN is elected ‘‘VAB Electric Family Car of the year 2024’’. The jurors – 17 professional automotive journalists and specialists and 43 family jurors judged 14 different electric cars in the surroundings of famous Zolder race circuit for 3 days – favored BYD DOLPHIN over 13 competitors from Volkswagen, Toyota, Cupra, Dacia, Fiat, Hyundai, Jeep, MG, Nissan, Opel, Renault, Smart, SsangYong. VAB is the Flemish Automobile Club, and organizes every year a coveted contest of the best family cars in different categories.

BYD DOLPHIN has distinguished itself as the best VAB Family Car in the electric segment. The jurors choose the DOLPHIN not only for its comfort, quality and great driving experience but even more appreciated the very spacious interior within the compact dimensions of the car. Affordable pricing, combined with high level of warranty, low costs per kilometer, high level of standard features and its state-of-the-art technology features also caught the attention of the jury. VAB Editor in Chief Jan Creten explains: “We organized the VAB Family car of the Year election for the 37^th time. We test cars and judge each vehicle on comfort, infotainment, safety features, accessories, budget and off course practicality, technology and drivability. This year in particular, the families voted for cars with high value for money, at affordable prices. The cars are judged by professional automotive media (counts for 25% of the total figure), family’s with kids (50 %) and also costs per kilometer for each vehicle. This important element contributes for 25 % of the total figure."

Outstanding Jurors report

The jurors report was clear and concluded: “The BYD DOLPHIN in unbeatable when it comes to price/quality/range” the report says. The car offers a lot value for money. Moreover, all jurors praised the compact dimensions of the DOLPHIN, combined with the wealth of interior space for its passengers and great dynamic driving experience.

BYD DOLPHIN, awarded by safety organisation Euro NCAP with the maximum of 5 stars, ended as the number one vehicles in the electric segment. A great result for a brand new vehicle that only just arrived in dealerships in Europe a couple of weeks ago. The BYD DOLPHIN is a compact but spacious hatchback that combines modern aesthetics with exceptional intelligence and efficiency derived from pioneering electric vehicle technology and smart connectivity. Measuring 4,290 mm in length and 2,012 mm wide (with wing mirrors unfolded), the BYD DOLPHIN enjoys a 2,700 mm wheelbase, optimised for space and comfort thanks to the e-platform 3.0 and short front and rear overhangs. DOLPHIN offers a seating for 5 occupants and good storage in the 345-litre boot, that can be expended to a impressive 1310 litres when seats are folded flat. The vehicle offers a highly efficient 60.4 kWh BYD Blade Battery with 427km range (WLTP combined).

Ground-breaking Blade Battery

BYD DOLPHIN also benefits from the ground-breaking in house developed BYD Blade Battery which is revolutionising safety, durability and performance in the EV industry. The cobalt-free Blade Battery uses Lithium Iron-Phosphate (LFP) which offers a much higher level of safety than conventional lithium-ion batteries. Furthermore, the Blade Battery offers more stability, safety and durability, delivering high power density with the benefit of ultra-low energy consumption.
